This song is about figuring out who you are because deep down you have been suppressing every memory of your life. This is my personal response to the song. I have recently found this song again one day on the radio not long ago coming back from a party with my now best-friend Josh. I also heard it once before that after not hearing this song in at least a decade. I am about to turn 20 in the spring and I found this song again and the next 2 days of my life, 3 including the day after I finally looked up this song on my spotify I have completely come to terms with who I am and why it was so hard to let people in.
This song was one of the factors that led me to have all of my suppressed feelings for my short 20 year life, which had become just about every memory of my life even my favorite teams (Boston) winning the super bowl and world series when I was young. My memory only went back until 2006 (I was 11). This song and many other triggers such as a snow storm that creates an entire week of no school, Apple spiking today after plummeting since Thanksgiving and even just being the happiest within my schooling that I have ever been. All of these things kept going in my brain and this song started it all from when I started walking towards my Accounting class for 11 AM on Monday, January 26, 2015; this is the song that started it all for me and I am so blessed that I have finally found myself. It is now 6:05 PM ET in Lowell, MA (A city full of crime, but has a very powerful university in the UMass system). In this city and with this song I have found who I am and I can finally go to sleep after all of this feeling like a newborn). Everything he says in this song, not a single line, especially the end with the Dad part. Everything is how I feel and I feel that Richard Patrick (He even has the same name as my father, who I have deep emotional issues with, and I can now confront him about it). Richard must have gone through the same exact process that I went through, because how else does he write a song that is exactly what I just went through, and his song made me crack; everything subsequent made me discover more and more who I was and why I had been so unavailable to other people regardless that I put on a fake smile and I was very positive for other people. I now know who I am because of Richard Patrick and his song has been so life-changing that he has replaced my number 1 spot for favorite song and favorite human being. Richard Patrick has become my idol and hero in a short 3 days. My mind went from 0-the speed of light for a solid 2 days. This is very real to me and I feel like a new man. Thank you Richard Patrick, you have changed my life forever and I am forever in your debt. I hope to meet you one day because I feel that you should meet the people that you have helped to break from their shell. |

Based on the video, I believe this song means to be grateful for what you have because anything could happen at any moment. In the video his girlfriend dies because an artery hemorrhaged and she died from it. He wasn't there for her and so he never truly appreciated her. At the end of the video he gets a second chance and he hugs her as if he has just realized how important she is to him. This song is about being grateful for what you have not about an ex. |

I love the rhythm in this song. They outdo themselves time and time again. It could be about a relationship which she is not ready to commit and it could be about Nick's drug addictions of the past. All I know is the chorus is well thought out and the rhythm makes me happy every time I hear it. |

I love this song. I started listening to it recently and I instantly fell in love with it. I love the rhythm guitar in this song. It makes me full of energy whenever I hear this song.
Nick Hexum is saying that he won't change for anyone because that wouldn't be who he is.
He doesn't feel comfortable trying to be someone else because that is not his style and I love that. He is an inspiration to me and many others who just want to live in a world that is free of judgment. Who cares if people are different? That's what makes them special don't you agree? |

I seriously think that this is a great song. For those who don't see the point of this song try reading the lyrics and search deeper into the actual meaning. 311 did a great Job with this one. Humans have great potential to do anything they put their minds to. There is more value in technology than in valuables such as gold and platinum. |

It gives off a vibe of being in love.
He wouldn't want to be with anyone else: "On the scales of desire your absence weighs more than anyone's presence." Plus he still gets jitters for her "you make me feel uncalm and I think I like it."

The moral of the song in my opinion is to Never Give Up, you may face hard times in your life whether it's with someone you care for or not, but ultimately don't give up on anything you love. In this song Aaron is waiting for someone important to him and they are doing the same for him. They have been through too much to just give up and there is a part of them that won't allow them to give up. They will always be waiting, trying to make things work when their relationship goes through a hard time. |

This song is about trying to break away from the "walls" which is how society is looking down on him. He is viewed one way, but he fears that he can't just be himself because he fears the judgement that others will make of him.
"Why do I read the writing on the wall" He is saying why do I let what other people think affect how I go about being myself and why can't I just show who I really am.
