I like this song. I think the image of a young divorced woman taking risks on the trapeze is a neat image and likely somewhat autobiographical for Patty (a metaphor for her own musical performances after her divorce): "After spending two years in Florida, Griffin moved to Boston in 1985, where she got married and took on odd jobs. She took guitar lessons, but only began playing music gigs after getting divorced in 1992." I'm curious about the potion that the character drinks in this song. The most obvious explanation for me here is that the character (and Patty) learns to drink away her blues. |
