To me this song has always been about guilt, associated with some terrible and irreparable act. It doesn't have to be murder, just something that haunts you. You can destroy the map, even think that you forgot it, but it always comes back.
Gord's comments during the final concert last night bring up another interesting parallel. We white Canadians, descended largely from colonists, carry around a collective guilt from the colonial era. This parallel is probably unintentional, but I do find it interesting. |

I think this song is about somebody in western Canada who is going to a rodeo. It is very cold outside but he doesn't care because his pickup truck has a good heating system. He meets a handicapped frind of his who has one testicle but enjoys masturbating. The narrator of the song has anger issues especially concerning people who don't square dance properly. That's what I think but I could be WAY OFF. |
