Fleet Foxes – Helplessness Blues Lyrics 11 years ago
Earlier the lyrics were listed on this website as "I'll get back to you Someday" but I think thats wrong, I think he says "I'll get back to you Sunday."

Mentioning "Sunday" is actually an important change, because it might mean he is talking about going to church.

I think this song is about the desire to let some one else tell you who you are. He is saying he wants to get his sense of identity from some groups that will tell him his name and who he is and what to think. The problem is he does not know which group to trust.

"I'll get back to you Sunday" is reference to religion, maybe he will let religion determine who he is. But religion i I'll bes not the only thing he is considering, the last line "someday I'll be like the man in the screen" is about movies and TV, maybe he will let them determine who he is.

So the song is not about religion, it's about a search for identity as part of a group. Religion is just mentioned as one of the possible groups that could give a sense of identity.
