This song is definitely about depression. When you're in one of these moods it literally feels like putting on your coat is like fighting for your life. It is so hard to do much of anything. You lose interest in hobbies like her cello that is just left in its case. Although people with depression often seem lazy, it's often to compensate for how incredibly busy their thoughts are. Something as mundane as the sound of water or a cup of coffee can turn into a spiralling philosophical debate to a depressive. A simple knock at the gate could be something as extraordinary as a lover. I think the title of the song "Her Morning Elegance" is an ironic statement that the girl has been lounging around in her pajamas for days on end. When she's in the store she thinks of the people as "pleasantly strange" which is a pretty accurate portrayal of how depressed people see others. The people are happy and normal but the depressive feels very disconnected from them all as if they exist in a different state. I think it is a very lovely song. |

To me this song is about not knowing where you belong. You search and search experimenting with different groups (fish, rocks) different drugs/coping mechanisms (all my needles...) You don't know where you belong in life so you just get swept up in the current and you float along. You resent and envy the people who are so sure of what their purpose is, where they belong. In the end you belong more with the river, you change and shift and melt through fingertips. You are not meant to stay in one place. |

To me it seems these lyrics represent the feelings of a guy who realized who he loved too late. As a result, he lost his twin, his soulmate, and now all he can do is long for his dead or gone lover. It seems he was careless and was over thinking whether this person was the right one for him and he waited too long and now that he realizes that person was his soulmate he is too late. |

Yeah, the father of three part definitely had me thinking of God. The marrow without bone could be representative of trying to believe in God without any firm evidence as we are that middle child after the death but before the return. |
