| Tupac Shakur – Brenda's Got a Baby Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Tupac was a visionary at a time where rap was very early in its history. Although the main theme of this song is about teenage pregnancy, prostitution, and drug abuse; I believe one of the most important lessons is the by-standing. Tupac is telling his people and his friends about Brenda and how she's pregnant to which his "friend" replies, "(That's not our problem, that's up ta Brenda's family)." To this Tupac goes on to explain how this affects his and (our) community. This is Tupac exemplifying why he raps about the social issues he does. In my opinion, Tupac feels obligating to rap about the injustices and the social problems he's witnessed. Not all of us have witnessed these things and this sheds light on these problems. The "that's not our problem" always sticks with me because it is our problem. It's our community, it's our people, it's our families that these tragedies are happening to and it won't go away until someone takes the initiative. Years later this song is remembered by rappers today which shows it's made an impact on them. The lyrics of this song are so dark and deep that it is also scary to think this was Tupac's first solo debut single and came off his first album. He truly had a visionary mind and it's unfortunate that his intelligence was taken from us at the tender age of 25. | |
