This song is referencing 1 Corinthians 13 1If I speak in human and angelic tongues* but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. 2And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.b 3If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. I would argue that this is the allusion meant here. Futhermore, the artist would need a fairly strong exposure to the bible to know this passage. It is near the wedding vow passage in 1 corinthians 13, however most people are not familiar with this section. He also speaks directly to God, as though praying. So I would definitely argue that he is a somewhat spiritual man at least. |
