Dinosaur Jr. – Watch the Corners Lyrics 4 years ago
@[starman714:31743] also watch the corners could be an analogy to taking a corner too fast while riding a bike or vehicle, you can wipe out, so watch the turns you're encountering. Either way it's about being careful you don't get hurt.

The Sundays – God Made Me Lyrics 5 years ago
It seems to be about the narrators awakening freedom from religious dogma. Our protagonist is in the midst of getting hammered with a bottle in their hand as if it's become a base exercise of life to forget people or somebody they lost, whose face and talks are becoming a blur. The mundanities of everyday life are there waiting, off to work we go, forget about a labor of love i.e. another lie they were taught in sunday school to keep them in line. So they awaken to the fact that everybody's doing what they want anyway so maybe they should too.

It's like the old saying, "no matter how hot she is, somebody somewhere is sick of her sh*t" - this is that dude

Walter Becker – Down in the Bottom Lyrics 6 years ago
I somewhat agree with the 1st comment though I think the person the narrator is addressing is alive and his comments about his friends old lady are about how cavalier and aloof his friend is towards her, he's losing her and needs to admit it's his own fault as the narrator asks him "is it safe to say you got burned today?"

Grateful Dead – Morning Dew Lyrics 6 years ago
@[Jerrybear:22504] exactly that ^ and Jerry's version of the ending is basically him taking her out anyway where they will presumably die because life is not worth living in the aftermath

The War On Drugs – Baby Missiles Lyrics 9 years ago
I'm thinking some of the lyrics here are wrong, like 'perch' should be 'crutch' a few other things too...I think the song is one of desperation, finding a new way, there's some casualties...the northeast bus comes back, he doesn't mind when the pioneers go soft on him, i.e. there were failed attempts at breaking away, coming of age and finding a place, he/they had to come back, he can't blame them though...it's all a bit vague but I get an overall feeling of desperation, trying to change, trying to discover something new - not sure if 'new Jack Tone' is Jack Tone the rancher or a 'new-jack tone', as in a new sound, a new way, i.e. somebody sounds like a newjack; his tone is like a new-jack, a n00b, all excited and green (???) lol

The Rolling Stones – Ruby Tuesday Lyrics 9 years ago
yeah, I remember several stories and complaints from musicians who worked with or for the Stones complaing about being ripped off - most notably Ry Cooder springs to mind, saying they used him for sessions on Let It Bleed because Brian was out of it and Mick Taylor was just coming aboard but they only credit him on one song and Keith played everything he had seen Cooder do during the sessions. Millions of dollars and many greased palms later, these stories are buried in out-of-print magazines and have never been seen on the internet for the most part.

The Rolling Stones – Ruby Tuesday Lyrics 9 years ago
yup, that's the story that was known closer to the period of the actual recording of it, Brian had the piano part for a long time, Keith wrote all the lyrics and the vocal melody etc - what's so unkind to me, not only in relation to this song but on a lot of the things discussed about the Stones between 1964-1969 is how often Brian gets swept under the carpet and how easily people went along with it because it didn't end well with him; the guy was the original musical genius of that band and he taught the Glimmer Twins a lot of what they know. They were much better at crafting the ideas into fully realized songs though.

The Rolling Stones – Ruby Tuesday Lyrics 9 years ago
Brian played recorder and piano on this song and the song was written by he and Keith, not Mick - as for being the last thing he ever did with them no, no it's not, far from bro - he's on their next 3 albums after this period, this being around the time of Between The Buttons - he played a ton of stuff on Their Satanic Majesties Request, Beggars Banquet and some of Let It Bleed - he's one of the guitars on both Jumping Jack Flash and Honky Tonk Woman - it's said they removed his parts from honky tonk woman and replaced them with parts by their then 'new' guitarist Mick Taylor, Taylor says he just basically did the same parts Jones had, Nico insisted that they left Brians parts in, but discredited him. Brians last thing with the Stones was to perform live with them for their 1969 TV special, The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus.

Dio – Rainbow In The Dark Lyrics 9 years ago
I tend to agree with the people who think it's about Rainbow the band and Ritchie Blackmore who was infamous for not getting along with his bandmates. While in Deep Purple he was known for that too. He's screamed at them onstage, stormed off and refused to perform all kinds of shit. He's known to be a prick when he doesn't like something that most people could work through and talk about. It was originally Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow, then Blackmores Rainbow. Rainbow was Blackmores band, he did the hiring and the firing including Dio eventually. He was talented but a dark moody bastard, a Rainbow in the dark.

One kid said before Dio formed and before Sabbath formed there was Rainbow lol - no, Sabbath was out a good while before Rainbow. Sabbaths first album came out in 1970 while Blackmore was in Purple lol (trust me I'm old)

PJ Harvey – This Wicked Tongue Lyrics 9 years ago
it's about the temptations inside the heart battling with a moral upbringing, rationalizing the feeling that God is nebulous, He's a million miles away, He won't know and eventually succumbing to the natural physical desires "creation, has failed again" - creatures are the created, the flesh has failed again lol

Dinosaur Jr. – Watch the Corners Lyrics 9 years ago
When you have a little toddler in the house, you have to watch their heads from hitting the corners of the furniture as they learn to walk on their own, it's an analogy, "hey me, watch the corners" because you're a part of me, you're my kid you are 'me' at another time - watch the video, it's about a teen girl discovering some things about herself which her dad is uncomfortable but mostly cool with "'i want you to be with us" "but the plan was set in stone long ago" - it's natural to grow up, there's really no wrong time to discover stuff, you do when you do, though dad's uncomfortable, he knows he has to let go and let her learn but he's there to pick her up when she gets hurt - really it's a pretty deep and beautiful song and video as usual from J !

pretty clear meaning about moving on from the wreckage of the times but wanting that someone to still be in your life

one lyric correction: "Can't stay within a vaulted cell" should read "can't stay within our vault to dwell"

Cream – Pressed Rat And Warthog Lyrics 10 years ago
I'm probably wrong but I often think of it as being about the ending of Cream n the fat ass egos with it, maybe references to Viet Nam and the acid drenched '60s in general. May take a little amplified heat myself for that opinion. ;)
