Alien Stash Tin – Girl on Tour Lyrics 11 years ago
This ones about escapism. Apparently this is a song in tribute to a friend of the bands who is a full time carer for her disabled husband. Unable to get out much she relaxes by watching old sci-fi TV show box sets, so the band decided to work as many references to her favourite shows into the lyrics as possible. There's about a dozen shows hinted at, some are obvious, but others are very obscure. Anyone fancy ago at spotting them?

Alien Stash Tin – America (Just Say No) Lyrics 11 years ago
This one was penned in the run up to the second gulf war, several members of the band were involved in anti-war marches and were inspired to write this as a result. It also reflects somewhat the European concerns about US cultural imperialism.

As an aside an academic at Harvard University has used these lyrics in a report on European attitudes to US Bush era foreign policy

Robert Calvert – Picket Line Lyrics 11 years ago
This song is taken from Calverts 1984 album Freq, a concept work which deals with industrial relations in Maggie Thatchers Britain. Between the songs there are audio clips where Calvert, along with former Bonzo The Dog vocalist Viv Stanshall visit picket lines and debate and engage with striking coal miners. This track expresses Calvert's sympathy for the striking miners fighting for their way of life against a system that is hell bent on the destruction of their unions.

Onslaught – Burn Lyrics 11 years ago
I have it on very good authority (vocalist Sy Keeler no less - an old mate if mine), that this little ditty is inspired partly by the catholic church child abuse scandals, and partly by the Norwegian 'lets burn a church' crazy amongst some black metal fans from a few years ago. Although it refers to no one incident as such
