Cherry Ghost wrote it. Almost all of Birdy's first album is her cover versions of songs that she likes. Very well done though. She can put meaning into a song that the original band may or may not have intended. Tempo, instrumentation, and tone of voice can change a song so much that the listener walks away with a completely different impression. |

"God knows what is hiding in those weak and drunken hearts" is a slight deviation from a line by Fyodor Dostoevsky in his epic philosophical novel "The Idiot". The line was originally, "God only knows what is hidden in those weak and drunken hearts." It is a line by one of the characters (Rogozhyn) when he is describing a scene that he witnessed. So, I guess Birdy borrowed from Cherry Ghost and someone from Cherry Ghost must read Dostoevsky. It is not, by any means, a well-known or often used line from the book. |
