Ok...this song, to me, is about the first time experience of being under the influence of mushrooms. Given that this song was released at a time in U.S. history when it was common to experiment. One famous incident involved Grace Wing trying to spike tea with LSD at the white house. If you ever wondered what it would be like to be under the influence of hallucinogens, then just listen to the lyrics of this song! Yes, this group was all about singing in favor of anti-establishment, but the way they portrayed this song to be was a way of relating to others that were also aware when their mind was expanded. It is a shame that mushrooms are illegal in the United States. |

I'm not sure if Beck ever experimented with drugs, or had a friend that did (the drug being heroin) but the song seems to be about an intervention. |
