Genesis – Supper's Ready Lyrics 11 years ago
I am one of the few Genesis fans that does not think Supper's Ready is their best creation. Firth of Fifth, Cinema Show, Dance on the Moonlit Knight, Carpet Crawlers, In The Cage, The Knife are better, but that is my opinion. I know Supper's Ready is in it's own category, just like The Lamb is. I also like a lot of Genesis stuff after Gabriel left. Different, but just as good. Why? The band, including Phil Collins, was magnificent. There is their 1974 tour and then there is the live album, Seconds Out, which I think is one of the greatest live rock albums of all time. Peter Gabriel is not there, but the band is. I like trying to figure out what they are saying in all of their songs, but I think a lot of Genesis fans focus on Gabriel's lyrics more than Genesis, the magnificent band.

I also heard this theory, and I agree with you. I think it is about something bad, but musically it is such a beautiful song. Tony Banks' keyboard on this song is what pulled me into the world of Genesis

Genesis – The Carpet Crawlers Lyrics 11 years ago
Carpet Crawlers was written by the whole band. The lyrics might me some or most of Gabriel, but Genesis always gave their own contribution individually. As far as the instrumental portions of their songs, Gabriel has hardly anything to do with that part of the writing. Banks and Rutherford wrote much most of the instrumental part of their songs, and it was that part of Genesis, along with the lyrics too, that made me love them so much. Collins did not write anything as quoted by Phil himself. He was happy to be back their playing his drums, and in my opinion, one of the greatest drummers of rock and roll. He co-wrote 2 songs with the Peter Gabriel Genesis, one of which he sang on their 1974 tour, ""More Fool Me" which is on my favorite Genesis album, "Selling England By the Pound". I purchased the book "I Know What I Like" by Armando Gallo many, many years ago. He spent 7 years following Genesis around, watching them create and interviewing them. The book is what every Genesis fan should have, but I don't think it is available anymore. I purchased mine back in the early 80's. The book covers Genesis up and until "And Then There Three" and the photos throughout the book are magnificent.
