Hello Benjamin. Although I think your idea here is great, I always felt like the use of "moat" was less about the size of a body of water but more about what a "moat" is - "a deep, wide ditch surrounding a castle, fort, or town, typically filled with water and intended as a defense against attack." - that a lake is something that he could easily cross but he sees it more like a moat, in that he is not wanted - it is a distance that was put into place to keep him away, etc. |
