| The Postal Service – The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| This song describes the tense scene between a couple, one of whom is visiting the other at their apartment in DC. Their palms are sweaty, and they want to sink into the ground because of the awkwardness of the situation. This is the moment when they separate finally, ending all connection, and he cannot believe she belongs in this place. He is wondering why he "was the one worth leaving" but he is "finally seeing" because he realizes that she has changed, and is not the person he knew anymore. This explains why she would leave him behind, the question in the song that the narrator is finally beginning to comprehend the answer to. He has gone from someone she was so close to to just a visitor labeled as a temporary part of her life. In short, this song is about realizing that you were no longer welcome with the person who always welcomed you. | |

| He finds her to be the epitome of perfect for him. Even though he knows that she has these imperfections, to him she is flawless and everything about her just enhances the way he feels. This is the relationship, the true love, the give and take that everyone dreams of. Everybody has their faults, and yet this couple knows all of eachother and LOVES EACHOTHER ANYWAY, not in spite of the things that aren't perfect but because of them. In this song is the ideal mutualistic relationship. | |

I think that in this song, she doesn't like someone or decides they aren't good enough for her, but she doesn't want to hurt them. This explains why she's "feeling so guilty", "holding my breath", and "worried about everyone but me". She has this extreme guilt for not loving them any more and wishes she still did. "Try to convince me". She wants to not have to tell him that she wants to end it and doesn't feel the same way, because she is so scared of hurting him. She hopes he already knows, making her job easier, so she's prompting him with "won't you read my mind, "haven't you seen me sleepwalking". She is trying to get him to admit that they should end it so she doesn't feel so horrible, or feel like she's breaking his heart. |

I am going through a part of my life right now where I am trying to get over a longstanding crush, of which the object is unaware. This song really resonates with me, mostly because of "I don't love you, but I always will." It almost perfectly describes the way I feel about him-- sometimes I hate him for not knowing, hate myself for being too worried to tell him, and most of all hate that I can't stop liking him even though I know we're not right for eachother. The quote to me is saying that what you feel for them isn't necessarily love, because cynicism has prevented it from reaching that point, but at the same time this deep-seated emotion stays inside you and won't leave you alone. You know that no matter what you do, the feeling you have for them won't go away because it is just too much a part of you. I also love, "I don't have a choice, but I'd still choose you." This is how I feel about this crush, it's been going on for so long that the feelings will always stay there regardless of what I want, and yet I have to remember the wonderful traits and connection that brought it on in the first place. Honestly, the hardest part of the song is that it's a duet. They both feel this, and that's the one part of the song that I almost wish I could have, just to not feel so completely unworthy of everything I fantasize about. |

| Daughter – Candles Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| This song, I believe, is about a young woman who has a sexual experience she was not ready for, with someone who took advantage of her, had more experience, and used it against her. The song is about how she wants to stop fighting him, wants to be in love, wants to grow up, but at the same time knows that she is too young, and that this is wrong for her. I have been in situations (not sexual ones) before where I stop fighting someone although I am adverse to the situation, because they are the stronger, more experienced one. What happened to her has left her with the emptiness, as she finally begins to understand that this "familiar name" has betrayed her trust and taken advantage of her naivete. The song talks about the pain of realizing this bad decision she made, and how it's going to effect her. She is just a young heart, and now that this adult thing has happened it has forever changed her. The result of this song is a haunting effect that resonates with almost everyone. | |
