| Voltaire – Dunce Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| It isn't really an apology song, I don't think. I think it's more about not having a backbone. He says he'll apologize to anything, as if he isn't willing to stand up for himself. I get the feeling he's made to feel sorry for things that are either trivial or not his fault. | |

It's obvious that this song is about wanting to murder one's ex-lover's lover. What people seem to be missing is that it's also about the fact that it is just a fantasy that he doesn't really plan to carry out. In true Voltaire fashion,he wraps it all together with the last verses: "that will never change because i know myself too well i don't have the courage to carry out my dreams" He wants to kill the new guy, but he knows he doesn't have it in him to follow through with it. He's basically accepted (if reluctantly) that life goes on. On the surface, the words paint the picture of missing your ex-lover and the feeling of hatred directed towards their own new lover. But deeper, beneath all that, the song is about accepting that stuff happens and deciding to move on. It's okay to still be upset about it, but you have to put it behind you eventually. |
