Conor Maynard – Drowning Lyrics 11 years ago
This for me could have two versions. I guess it depends on how you view it.
First one is that he is with his girl, even though they are together it just seems she isn't the same she used to be. He is longing for the past with his girl, because this is where the good part was: "You see I went looking for yesterday that’s where I think all the good memories of you and me, went"
And even though the girl still "looks just like sounds just like feels just like you" she just isn't the same as she used to be.
And since he'd rather be back - "I'd rather be there than here" - he's gonna be drowning in the memories of the good times they had together. Forcing himself to think of when it was good.
He then goes on to sing that he doesn't want to be saved: "I, don’t, want a life saver (No). Unless it's gonna save this love." This meaning he wishes to stay in the past to stay in the relationship. Only way he wants to be saved is if they can save their love.
The other scenario is less likely, but I'll throw it out there anyways..
He moved on and found a new girl. But when he's with this new one all he can think about is the old one. "I miss you cause the one I’m lookin’ at right now
She, looks just like sounds just like feels just like you". The new girl resembles the old one, and so he misses her.
He's swimming around in "a sea of forgetfullness" as he is trying to remember the good times he had with his ex.
Something happened to his former girl, which changed her, so: "I wish you’d get back to that girl, the one that I remember as my lover." He wishes she would go back to being the one he loved, so that they could become lovers again.
