I understand the song differently. Imagine: There's a guy sitting at home with his dear. He looked at a wall. There is a clock. There are several pictures of him and his family as well. His photo as a toddler, his photo as a soldier, his mother's photo, ... Pictures of this life. Picture of her life as well. They selected these pictures, for them and for everyone that visits their home, for their world. The pictures that remind them of their past, of who they used to be. Then he wonders if it could be different. Better. He's not happy with his life and his love at that moment. He wants a change, He wants a cure for what is wrong. He has the ideas what to do, knows what pictures he would rather see next on the wall. But he can't just change that, and he blames government for blocking the change. Then he thinks of his dear. He wants her to tell who she really is, inside. What's beyond the pictures. Her secrets. What does she believe in. Then he thinks of the change he wanted. That there are some things he won't change no matter how hard he tries now. Things he could change in the past, but he didn't. The pictures remind him of whom he could be if he did change something in the past. So, for me the song boils down to an afterthought of a person, a person that thinks - or maybe so it is - that the government blocked and still blocks a better path of his life. |
