It really annoys me when this song is attributed to Daryl Braithwaite. He did not write it and if you listen to the original version on Rickie Lee Jones' 1989 album Flying Cowboys you'll realise that Braithwaite hasn't even put his own spin on it - he sings it as a cover. The Horses was written by Rickie Lee Jones and Walter Becker (from Steely Dan who collaborated with her on other songs on the Flying Cowboys album) as a celebration and tribute to Rickie 's young daughter Charlotte Rose, just as Rickie ' s father had done for her. |
