I actually think this song means much more than only drugs and alcohol. It's like a shout from the inside trying to escape from oneself. "Forgive me father. I love you mother" Is like a state trying to say that (s)he regrets all the bad decisions made that hurt others (something quite common when we feel we're a failure) I think the lyrics are asking for help, asking for a route of escape, a way of change. Also: "I'm scared to get close and I hate being alone I long for that feeling to not feel at all The higher I get, the lower I'll sink I can't drown my demons, they know how to swim" That part I think it's more about the fact that we feel hopeless and helpless and without strength, meaning at the end that our mind - the negative thoughts and the demons we rise - are, usually, way more powerful than our will to change because they are scary and unknown. It's like a way of saying that we he prefers to feel numb, but that also means he will stay alone with the demons inside his mind. |

Even though almost everyone interprets this song is about a relationship between two people, is more about the relationship we have with our own mind and soul. The song actually means the fight within ourselves. As in the video is shown, it means the transformation we make until we lose our minds; is in that moment when we actually start fighting with our own mind trying to kill the fake person we've constructed in order to change. The song shows us the battle within a real person and the fake one, but, in this case, the real one lost his/her mind and it's unable to perceive the reality (s)he lives in. Somehow, the end of this is unknown. It can be wether suicide, losing our minds completely or a rebirth. |
