I think this song is about addiction, but I don't think it's about drugs. The general tone for the album is one of social commentary; he's making several indictments of the current generation. Viewed in this context, I think the song is about instant gratification and the internet. He likens information grazing to "furious static erasing who you are." Constant references to plastic, electricity and electronic signals strengthen this connection. The ultimate point is that wasting all of your time scrolling the web bombards your mind with useless information, dulling your personality and turning you into robots. |
