| The Magnetic Fields – Three-Way Lyrics | 11 years ago |

I'm surprised at the variety of interpretations for three-way. I thought first of a sexual encounter, but this doesn't seem to fit. I'm sure the band was aware of this alternate meaning when they chose the title, though. Note that we hear the same piece three times but with variations. I have a hunch that "three-way" is a hint about the musical progression, similar to Dave Brubek's famous "Take Five" song, where the title refers to the 5-beat timing. |

| Queen – Under Pressure Lyrics | 11 years ago |

This song is about the pressure of knowing there isn't much time left to live. Mercury and Bowie are old enough to see their bodies, voices, careers and lives slipping away. Mercury was dead within years. I cry when I hear this song. I still have dreams that I won't ever have time to reach. The terror of knowing; my friends die around me. With vast courage and defiance it says, "Let this be my greatest, shining, moment." For tomorrow we die. |

When I first heard the song, I thought it must be about his own mother. Project much? Ha ha. No, this song is about Elliot himself. That's easy considering the way he lived and died. My favorite line, "Fights problems with bigger problems." Yup, I know people like that. "For someone half as smart, you'd be a work of art." I have always thought that this was admonishment to the subject of the song. "For someone half as smart (as you are), your life would be a work of genius (art). But for you, your life doesn't live up to your true abilities." IOW, get yourself together! Again, he's speaking to himself. |
