A song which perfectly encapsulates Doug's relationship with addiction. Additionally, the lines: "I can't remember why I like this feeling/ When it only seems to let me down" are so perfect and could apply to so many parts of life -- just self destructive behaviors in general. Brilliant. |

More than simply being a song from the perspective of a guy who was cheated on (or at least found out how much his ex got around after they broke up), I think this is really about the sting of finding out that something that was so meaningful to you meant little to the other person. Not only was his heart broken, but then his illusion of what they'd had got shattered. It seems like he loved her and even after it ended he believed it had meant something. He then found out that their relationship was just a notch in her bedpost. He's angry, but more than that he's tortured. Doug, always the tortured soul. ::sigh:: |

Hauntingly beautiful account of reminiscing with someone you loved. She is clearly about to get married and has accepted settling for someone who isn't him. For whatever reason they can't be together and it's painful. Before parting for the final time, they want to stay in the nostalgia for as long as they can. The simple and sad acceptance is heartbreaking, as they have resigned themselves to being apart. |
