Bombay Bicycle Club – My God Lyrics 12 years ago
I think the song is describing the act of breaking up. It's the final conversation the two have as a couple. I say this mainly because of the second verse and my experience with breaking up.

The first verse is the moment of realisation for the other person (breakee). The person doing the breaking up (breaker) is looking away and fumbling his/her words while he/she is trying to get the message out. The breaker is so focussed on breaking up that he/she isn't paying attention to the breakee in this intense moment and the breakee is the dear friend.

The second verse mentions "our" flower and "our" stem and these are strong metaphors for the relationship.

The repeated "My God" is the multiple realisations that one goes through when they realise a precious relationship is over.

The guitar and voice in this song are so beautiful and the fagility of the situation if brilliantly expressed by this song. I actually can't listen to this song at the moment because it's too realistic to my past experience.
