Eagles – New Kid In Town Lyrics 11 years ago
With all due respect I think some on here are taking it too literally when they attribute the meaning to a simple love relationship between a couple. I totally agree with those who interpret it as alluding to the "fleeting nature of fame." That is, how the Eagles were top-dog once, but that it could change in a heartbeat as soon as a "new and hotter" act comes to town. The Eagles were the original "Johnny come lately" new kid, spoken of in the opening lyrics, then along comes another "new kid in town." ("where you been lately, there's a new kid in town...").

Bread – Aubrey Lyrics 12 years ago
There are some very interesting takes and interpretations of this song. There is really not much I can add, but I did want to note a couple of things.

First, I too always took it to be either about an unreturned love, or just one that, for tragic reasons, just never worked out.

Second, I have always agreed too with those of you who take the "but where was June?" as alluding to the fact they never married.

Finally -- I didn't see anyone else make this application -- but I translated the line: "I never knew her but I loved her just the same." into that they never consummated their relationship in a physical way. The reason I say that is because the verb "new" is an old term/euphemism to refer to having sexual relations.

Anyway, just a few thoughts on a beautiful song!
