The Lucksmiths – Victor Trumper Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is written from the perspective of the great Australian leg-spin bowler Arthur Mailey, who told the story of how as a young man playing in club cricket he came to bowl against the greatest, most admired and most swashbuckling batsman of the age, Victor Trumper. Mailey was not only an admirer of Trumper, but also a great romantic - he was certainly sensible of the privilege of bowling to his hero! Trumper played a succession of typically glorious strokes, until Mailey managed to bowl him (not have him stumped as the song suggests). In telling the story years later he used the memorable and poignant phrase "I felt like a boy who killed a dove."

One for the real cricket fan this! :D
