I think the title is the key to understanding this song. Tokyo could be viewed as a city of speed, a forward-thinking environment who is set on fast and efficient progress. If we connect that with the lyrics, the song sheds light on the other side of this speedy advancing: becoming a stern, cold person. While chasing for means to make their lives better and shinier, people can forget how to truly interact with those around them, so they're at the risk of becoming hollow and lonely. I think this song is a great demonstration of how it doesn't take big words or shocking imagery to make a strong point that truly resonates with the lives of modern people. |
