This is one of Florence + the machine's more upbeat tunes and it's brilliant. Flo's voice is perfectly suited. I love how she depicts the emotional rollercoaster between the couple. They are constantly testing each other yet are equal in their love for each other. The diction shows how intense and passionate their love is. ' "You" and "I" are used over and over again making it clear that's really all that matters. |

(Sigh)...my favourite One Republic song. So much emotion in every verse and its communicated so well that, yes, yes I can see what you see. This song reminds me of FAST CAR The singer has realised that his life hasn't turned out the way he'd hoped. In the first verse he knows he needs to make a change, leave, do something. He knows he needs to do more to be more. Later his senses return, there are a lot of references to motion and moving even though he isn't where he should be by now. I think "Stop and stare" means take moment and look, assess, evaluate what has become. The years have flown by so quickly, time is not on his side "counting up the years". A definite classic. |

I love this song. Though I do admit, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts have done a bang up job with their cover. It's a hopeful outlook that with a bit of love (crimson) and luck (clover, the clover leaf depicts this), the singer has a good chance of capturing the heart of the girl (that he isn't close to). The cover art for this song says it all :) Thank you Tommy James and the Shondells for coming up with this awesome tune that I can't stop playing! |
