| I see this a song as being about the joy/pain of forging a deep love. It's about when a couple reaches a point in their relationship where it's getting "real". The initial phase of masks and trying to impress the other is ending and they are starting to really see each other for who they are. He's inviting her to open her eyes and see the real him, if she still wants real him, if she'll need to leave because it's too much or not enough, or if she'll reciprocate let her guard down and stay. In any case he's decided that she's worth it and he's opened himself up and although he's ready and sees her as this beautiful "star" and shining part of his life he knows that because he's opened up to her, he's vulnerable. No matter what happens they've got to a point where she's going to leave a mark or "scar" on his life/heart. She's this light and positive part of his life that is shaping him but that comes with the scars and bleeding because she has so much power to hurt him and she will hurt him, she's human and he probably already sees tendencies in her that may end up either hurting him or really challenging him. But he's accepted that and the relationship is still worth it to him …so he's willing to let her "bleed" all over him. The bleeding could be her hurting him or it could be her opening up painful/challenging parts of herself that make the relationship more challenging but also more "real", deep and intimate. | |
