As I really started listening to it, it might not just be about being against your peers. It could be about parents, parental figures... And then there's a certain line in the song that makes me think it's referring to the government. Just...people in general, being paranoid that everyone--literally everyone--is out to get you. |

The movie is basically a Romeo & Juliet story, much like I've heard the first one was hamlet. This song is at the point where Romeo(or, Kovu, in this case) was banished for killing Tulio. Now that I'm older and read these lyrics, I feel more sad than when I was a child watching this. The way Simba and the other animals are so unforgiving... 'Born in grief Raised in hate Helpless to defy his fate' --Helpless to defy it, yet they're still extremely put off. 'Let him run Let him live But do not forget What we cannot forgive' --Unable to let go of the past. 'Someone once lied to us Now we're not so blind' --They were lied to once, and they say they aren't so blind any longer...but they only gave him one chance. They wouldn't let him explain what happened. They just drove him from the pride lands...most likely out of fear, anger, discrimination... |

Can everyone please stop associating every little song to God? This is a good song, and can be interpreted many different ways. As an Atheist, I can easily associate it to someone I have fallen in love with(this was honestly the song that ran through my mind constantly when I had thought I found the one). I mean, it's okay to say it's about God, but to INSIST, to say 'no, it's not about anything else, this is the only truth, it's only about Him' ... ...That's where I draw the line. |
