| The Black Keys – Howlin' for You Lyrics | 11 years ago |

I definitely agree with what MissSapias said. It's like a nursery rhyme lyrically. These schoolyard word choices, set the scene to and tell us where the song takes place. The first stanza basically describes your first crush. You can't explain why, but you're just crazy for her! The second stanza reminds me of when I had a my first crush on this girl and all the other kids made fun of me for it, even though they had crushes too. That plot didn't make sense to me. They had no clue. I was howlin' for her! The third stanza further prooves my hypothesis because to mock means to make fun of someone or something. And kids are small and have high voices, so they can easily be compared to birds. All I can get out of the forth stanza is that the singer is telling the other kids to just go play baseball and stop making fun of him and to let him be with his crush. It's kinda silly, but that's what I see in it. Maybe he was just using the schoolyard scenario to symbolize a current situation in his life. I don't know... Anyway, that's my literal interpretation. :) |

| Your commenting on the wrong song bro... :-/ Also, Fireflies is totally about lucid dreaming. Just saying. If you're a lucid dreamer then it all makes perfect sense. | |

| Totally agree with what pjunk says. And I don't think it's the Titanic sinking because there's only a few lines that could allude to that and he sings of June but the Titanic sunk in April. Great song! | |

I find more to this song than just a broken heart that can't be let go of. I believe Adam's writing about being on tour and just wanting to go home. I'm tired of waking up in tears, 'Cause I can't put to bed these phobias and fears He's affriad of messing up on stage. I'm new to this grief I can't explain; But I'm no stranger to the heartache and the pain This fear is new to him, but he's experience the pain it causes before. The fire I began, is burning me alive But I know better than to leave and let it die He started the project Owl City, which is now starting to overwhelm him. But he knows that he should follow through with it. I'm a silhouette asking... A silhouette is a simple representation of something, but it lacks detail. It tells you what it is, but nothing about it. When Adam's on stage he's a silhouette. He performs and you see Owl City. But he's nervouse and he'd rather be at home. Is it over yet? Will I ever feel again? He wonder's if this tour will ever end. But the more I try to move on the more I feel alone The harder he tries, the more tired out he feels. After all, he's an introvert. So I watch the summer stars to lead me home Adam's a Christian, so I see this as him looking to God for help in a hard time. I'm sick of the past I can't erase, A jumble of footprints and hasty steps I can't retrace, The mountains of things that I still regret, Is a vile reminder that I would rather just forget (No matter where I go) This whole tour thing's got him down and when you're feeling down you often think of other times when you failed or made mistakes and it pulls you down further. He'd rather just forget these things. Also, the "no matter where I go" implies that he's traveling, thus on tour. (Chorus) 'Cause I walk alone, no matter where I go 'Cause I walk alone, no matter where I go 'Cause I walk alone, no matter where I go Like I said, he's an introvert. And introverts need their time alone to recharge. Again, "no matter where I go" implying that he's on the band wagon... (Chorus) NOTE: Now don't get me wrong; Adam's a fantastic individual! And I'm not saying that he's faking happiness up on stage and that he really hates everyone. I'm just saying that he doesn't prefer to tour. |

He spends lost of money on these cute, young girls. He always ends up with a young girl, but he doesn't know why. He knows his relationships with them aren't good or going anywere, but he loves them too much to stop. In the end, he just ends up wasting money and time on them on them and making himself more miserable. Though he dreams of actually getting married and settling down with one of them, he knows that true, sacrificail love isn't found in these kind of relationships. I like this song because I'm always attracked to girls at least 3 years younger than me. But this song just keeps reminding me that if I get in a relationship with a young girl, I'll only end up hurting her and myself. Because, even if I truly love her, she's too young and isn't ready for the type of serious relationship that I want. |
