Metric – Speed The Collapse Lyrics 12 years ago
So, I'm fairly certain this is actually about the government and economics and such, but hear me out.
The way I see this song, it's relating toward some sort of heartbreak/breakup situation. Seeing as I had went through a breakup right before I heard this song, I guess it only makes sense that I'd see it that way.
For reference, let's say the singer's relationships end up with her being ignored, unappreciated, etc. no matter how hard she tries.

"All the way from where we came" - what one has been told about love and relationships since they were young
"Built a mansion in a day" - quickly creating a personal bond with the person they love
"Distant lightning, thunder claps" - they recognize the signs that their relationship won't last
Watched our neighbor's house collapse; Looked the other way" - witnessed their friend's breakup which had the same warning signs, but ignored it and figured it would last anyway
"And then the storm was overhead; All the oceans boiled and rivers bled" - the breakup happens, problems surface, etc.
"We auctioned off our memories; In the absence of a breeze; Scatter what remains; Scatter what remains" - tries to forget them because they're gone, etc.
"Pushed away, I'm pulled toward; A comedown of revolving doors" - before the breakup, when the partner was becoming distant, the singer tries everything they can to fix the relationship and deals with being ignored and unappreciated, just so they will stick around
"Every warning we ignored; Drifting in from distant shores" - all the signs become apparent, pretty self explanatory
"The wind presents a change of course; A second reckoning of sorts" - the singer is getting over their ex, and because of that a new lifestyle is in view
"We were wasted waiting for; A comedown of revolving doors" - her time was wasted trying to give her all to someone who didn't appreciate it
"Fate don't fail me now" - hoping she doesn't go through that again
"And when the days that followed past; In another mansion built to last" - time passes and she gets into another relationship
"From our window we could see; Only possibilities; Down the road and back" - is only thinking about a happy future for the both of them, can't recognize the problems
"But, then the storm returned for more; In a comedown of revolving doors" - they break up, after her unfortunate situation is repeated; she gives her all to a person who doesn't care and they leave

So there you have it. Makes sense, doesn't it?
