@[Myiaya:37529] I actually love how she shifts emotionally several times in the song, cute n sweet, verge of tears, to defiant/pissed There’s a 2020 live version for the anniversary of pieces of you, she delivers probably the most emotionally loaded/authentic performance, I wish they would have unleashed that more in her work vs the refined manufacturers radio sound, Example, you were meant for me, the delivery and feel are different cd vs radio single, the album version is far more authentic feeling |

@[chris98969:37527] sometimes for whatever reason she changes that live, she says black gloves in more recent live renditions And to dispel false info and guesses, if you look up live renditions of the song, namely a live version from 95 , she tells the story, it was her friend, They weren’t allowed to watch tv with any black people in them, she remembers them being vulnerable to the racist mindset and abuse and generally closed minded. She tells the story herself, so it’s undoubtedly factual |

This song is about a friends father, they weren’t allowed to watch any tv with black people in it, she felt like they were very vulnerable to the previous beliefs and closed minded abusive parenting, she was 7 years old and they were watching the jeffersons, AND it’s DEFINITELY straight up fact, if you look up daddy live from 1995 it comes straight from the goddesses mouth |

well what i gather from it. it might seem like religious, but to me it sounds like the "false angels/demons" may be someone who wont mind their own business. sounds to me like this may be an ex that he still loved but others wouldnt stay out of it..... the chorus sounds to me like hes hurting cause he didnt want to do this, but knows there was no choice. stay away youre still a big part of me - kinda hit me like. this wont end well, leave me alone as distance will help me resist you. well noone knows for sure what that song means except those who wrote it. but this is the meaning i get from the song. GREAT f'n tune all day anyway |
