Wow there is a lot here focusing on Jack and Meg but the whole song isn't about that. Its about loneliness. Obviously... The title. Anyways. The whole song mostly speaks for itself; line for line, that is. But as far as the overarching story goes I think it is as follows: Jack is an isolationist. He prefers to be alone. This comes with its consequences: Loneliness. He wants to go be with his mom, but he wont; He wants to go be with his "sister," but he wont; He could fill his loneliness with a girl he knows, but he wont. His loneliness gets to him sometimes. He almost kills himself in this song. But hes not that lonely yet. |

| I picture it as a one night stand, of sorts, between two people who have very strong feelings for each other but, for whatever reason, can't be together. I don't know why I think this but in my head I hear the first verse as the girl talking to the guy; the second verse is the guy talking to the girl; and the last verse is back to her speaking to him. | |
