I always took this as - after the events in the "title track" the male protagonist has become emotionally invested in the object of his affections. She on the other hands treated it as a casual fling; and is involved with someone else "I thought you knew".
Interesting reversal on the "guys are the ones that have meaningless flings and women don't".
Lots of drama between the two parties subsequent to their involvement. |

I think this song, and most of the songs on this recording are basically a great song cycle about a one night stand, the male finding himself falling in love with his conquest (and the woman already involved with someone else) and all the consequences afterwards. It's almost a concept album in some ways. |

I hear it more as a disintegrating relationship song but the song is so delightfully vague in some of the lyrics you could take it as a number of things. |
