| Michelle Branch – Empty Handed Lyrics | 2 years ago |
Michelle hints that she is entering a new stage of life, leaving behind her past. She feels that she has a duty to herself to take advantage of opportunities. She recognizes that others may be stuck in the same situation but trying to help others would only make her drown more. To this, she tries to make others aware. “You feel the water but do you swim?” I think it’s very much about acknowledging that she may be stuck in a certain situation or place and the only way out is forward. |

| Paula Cole – Carmen Lyrics | 2 years ago |
If we look at the title name of the song, we can’t really examine that this name as just any woman, but of Carmen - the femme fatale main character of Bizet’s Opera of the same name. Carmen was a gypsy seductress. She seduced a man, José, who she later left for someone else. I believe this song may be in the perspective of José. He is so enamored and infatuated with her. He says he cannot go back (he was still in a relationship with his childhood sweetheart). This song really speaks to the male gaze and some men’s readiness to abandon the women already in their lives. It’s quite ironic in the play by Bizet because José’s infidelity resulted in Carmen rejecting him anyway. José kills Carmen as a result. |

| Lana Del Rey – National Anthem Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I believe that Lana is referencing the "man" to money. Many of the things she does can relate to money, as it buys everything. "Take me to the Hamptons Bugatti Veyron" "Winin' and dinin', drinkin' and drivin', excessive buyin', I also believe that she is referencing the beauty of him, to money too. "Money is the anthem, God, you're so handsome, money is the anthem," |
