When I look at these lyrics, I think of Barney Stinson. He just had a (Adjective) night, but he doesn’t feel the same way other women made him. Somehow he felt something. (“I didn't wanna wake up But then I felt your touch”) I don’t think drink as in action, but in effect. His feelings were false, clouded by a toxin. Now he is starting to feel. (“Now I notice that I drink too much And the turning of the universe oh”) He pretended to have feelings, but he didn't know those feelings would be real and they are serious. Will he surrender to these feelings and be human? (“Spent the morning as a pretender Will this be the age of surrender The falling dark it lines The walls let ours combine”) Now he has to decide what he is going to do with his life after a quick wake-up slap. |

Although the main part of the meaning is expressed well in the lyrics in my opinion this song’s meaning and literal translation is… This girl got into some bad stuff, may it be drugs or alcohol, and her boyfriend does not accept it very well. (“Carved earth, cold Hiding from you in this skin So old”) She tries to tell him that she can come clean and people know that she can. But he doesn’t know. (“Everyone-everyone knows It’s, me”) She asks him if/when she recovers if you’ll stay with me. (“And if I recover Will you be my comfort?”) Or the alternative, they break up… You choose. (“Or it can be over Or we can just leave it here So pick any number Choose any color I've got the answer Open the envelope”) Because he loves her he decides to stay, but she knows that he feels that he doesn’t know her anymore so she asks him again (“I'll give you one more chance To say we can change or part ways you take what And you need And you don't need me”) I don’t want to know what blow by blow means… She knows that however he appears to be that he fears an answer (“Honest in every way I know You appear To face a decision I know you fear”) And so it is basically about a girl who gets caught up ion some bad things, and it is the boy’s decision if they break up or not. |

First, to clear it up, I think “Trojan” is referring to the virus where it can change and rearrange documents. I see this being about a boy meeting a perfect girl (or boy...) and they create a special relationship, but she doesn't look at him that way ("Take it off Take it in Take off all the thoughts of what we've been Take a look Hesitate") so he tries to get over her, ("Take a picture you could never recreate Write a song make a note for the lump that sits inside your throat Change the locks, change the scene Change it all but can't change what we've been") but can't stop thinking about her. No matter what he tries to do something is changing his thoughts making her even more desirable. (“Your trojan’s in my head”) He tells her that it’s alright that she doesn’t think that they are right for each other, (“It's ok if it's gone The thoughts that you had that it was the one”) but he defends with “if we aren’t anything what are we?” (“And oh what is left? For all those times is that what you get?”) He doesn’t care, he thinks they can change. (“Oh regardless The walls get painted anyway”) He realizes that there is someone else in this love triangle, but he says that he loves her more than the other guy ever will. (“Oh you’re guarding The gates, but it all got away”) Screw it, I want you, let’s be together. |
