@[TwiceBorn:36068] I always took it as a reference to Gen 18:16-33 where Abraham pleads with God to not destroy the city of Sodom if there are even just 50, no, even just 40, or 30, or 20, or finally 10 righteous people there. I think the line could have multiple simultaneous meanings though. As with so many of Sufjan's more religious songs, just a few short words convey miles worth of meaning and emotional power. Great artist. |

It is so aggravating when people get the words wrong, you'd think they would pay a bit more attention if they were going to go to the trouble of typing them up on a music lyrics site!! So far nobody anywhere has got this part right: It's not "Black lava rocks" or "Black lava knives"....(how does that make any sense at all?) It is quite obviously (in my opinion) "Black lovin' eyes and a stare that sees for miles" Rant over. Sorry. |
