| Jethro Tull – Locomotive Breath Lyrics

Per Ian Anderson of the band: "Lyrically, "Locomotive Breath" was inspired by Anderson's concern regarding overpopulation.[5] He explained, "It was my first song that was perhaps on a topic that would be a little more appropriate to today's world. It was about the runaway train of population growth and capitalism, it was based on those sorts of unstoppable ideas. We’re on this crazy train, we can’t get off it. Where is it going? Bearing in mind, of course, when I was born in 1947, the population of planet earth was slightly less than a third of what it is today, so it should be a sobering thought that in one man’s lifetime, our planetary population has more than tripled. You'd think population growth would have brought prosperity, happiness, food and a reasonable spread of wealth, but quite the opposite has happened. And is happening even more to this day. Without putting it into too much literal detail, that was what lay behind that song." |

| Young the Giant – Superposition Lyrics
|
Superposition, in the case of this song, is similar to the Schrodinger Cat experiment, where, once the box is sealed up, there is the possibility of 2 states of the cat. Dead or alive. However, in the song, it speaks to the many different possibilities that exist out there, yet the two of them were meant to meet. He doesn't believe in fate, nor psychic vision, but, things "fall into place" as superposition. The pull that this person has on him, is, in fact, fate. It was meant to be. So the conundrum of him not believing in fate and then expressing how it would have happened is just the same as Superposition.
It's really such a lovely song, using STEM concepts. I can't get enough of it. |

A song about drugs and addiction. He was able to walk away from it and get himself straight but his friend wasn't. The "I guess your name and someday so will he" is a reference to sympathy for the devil, calling evil by its real name.
Great song. |

| Grand Funk Railroad – I'm Your Captain Lyrics

This song is CLEARLY about the 3 part movie The Hobbit. The writer clearly had visions of these movies being made and didn't want this to occur. He feverishly wails about his ship (the actual book "The Hobbit") and how it's been taken over by some nefarious movie Director who is going to mangle the hell out of it. The writer was drug addled and could see visions of the future.

@[mcwryter:24254] I like this interpretation. It closely matches what I thought of listening to this song. It's a powerful tune. The interlude is interesting. It elicits strength. As if he feels very comfortable in his silence, but towards the end it drops back down to a lower vibration.
Very interesting song. |

Stevie spoke about this song. It's about a friend of hers named Robin who was dying of Leukemia. She wrote it as her friend was dying, hoping that it would someday inspire someone to become a doctor, someone who would dedicate themselves to eradicating cancer.
It's truly a beautiful song. |

He's broken up with his girl, for whatever reason. He's ok though. He understands that happiness lies with him not someone else, hence he doesn't mind being alone. He can recall the happiness of youth and the possibilities that lie waiting.
This is such a great song and I'm sad no one has commented on this yet. |

I love this song. It's about the battle with depression. Not talking your rainy day run of the mill depression but serious, down in a hole, can't see out of, depression, and how we should deal with it. There's almost a "pull yourself, literally, out of the hole and realize that whatever it is that's bothering you, you can overcome. Whenever you start letting the soundtrack of negativity continue digging its grooves into your brain, stop! Tell yourself something else. These 2 lines really say it all:
We must live to fight the negative
Not court the self in defeat |

I love this song. He likes someone who he knows is playing the field and is trying to get a rise out of him. It's shaken him to the core. He still is pursuing her, but he's getting tired of it. |

I remember when this song came out. I was in San Diego at the time. This band caught us all by storm. E everyone was singing it. Instant classic. Yeah, Cheap Trick were the original of this song. Their Live At Buddha, where they performed at a Buddhist temple and did the most memorable version of this song just kicks ass. Check the whole album out. You won't be disappointed. |
