I think, it's important to look at who wrote the song, and the way he chose to word it and change it so slightly each verse. I would say that this song is about a mother losing the connection to a child because she is an addict. Are you slowing wasting away in your skin is a good indication but the part that really sinks this in for me is "nodding and melting and fading away" the fact he saved this for the last stanza indicates it's importance, and nodding is a commonly used word in the world of addiction. It's a beautifully painted picture of what addiction can do to a mother and ultimately her family, just looking at it in a new light, from the perspective of someone who understands how big the struggle is to stay clean, and to focus on what matters, like your child. |

I think it's a play on addiction and the addiction to a partier's lifestyle. How they constantly think they love living that way like it's "the best" but it's actually not living at all. It touches on things that are abnormal and a part of that lifestyle like they're awesome but if you think about it, crack house arrests and you're head being a mess (and so on) aren't at all "the best". Or I could be over analyzing shitty lyrics, who can be sure these days? One can find depth so long as they have that same depth within their mind. |
