| The song is about kids who start to break out into the world and try to make it on their own. They start to idolize money and personal effects and find that the world is much harder than they thought when their parents took care of all the worries. Mom and dad are still sitting at home worrying about their kids and are there to help pick them up. The kids have a tendency to hide their failures and lie about how awesome their lives are but they are in turmoil. | |

This really isn't complicated, its about feelings that take over when the world is crumbling down around you. Its when the self mutilation takes over and you look to feel something in the blackness of your sickness. Johnathan endured abuse from family and peers. That abuse takes its toll on you especially when the world is dark in your eyes. I believe that being on the road touring is hard as hell emotionally and Jon wrote this when he was in a dark place. I've been there and every time he says you hes looking in the mirror and blaming himself for everything and feels he need to make himself pay the price for things that aren't even in his control, so he self abuses or mutilates. |
