Could be about a father who did a mistake and by that mistake his wife died. The person who sings is a son to both of them, and tries to help his father, knowing it was only a mistake. We built our home out on the slopes Pompeii beneath, she lay above How she haunted our home How she haunted our home -This is when it just had happen, and they wanted to run away from the terrible thing that had happend. They built their home away from everything, wanting a new world, hoping everything would go away, but the wife/mother were still with them, in their minds and house.- You were a god in my eyes Above the clouds, above the skies You were a god in my eyes You were a god -Here the son says to the father that he had always seen his dad as a 'god', the one who could do everything. But now he doesn't know anymore.- You took me walking through the town Showed me the statues underground Said just don't they look in peace Sometimes I wish that was me -The father wanted to have peace, but he knew he couldn't, after what had happen. He looked at the statues and wanted to be gone from all bad.- And I was the son you always had Tugging at your coat when you were sad I was the son you always had I was the son you always had -The singer says to his father that he is there, and he can help him. He tried to make him feel good again, and tries to get his father to understand that he still got the son.- Oh please, just don't cry Hold your head up high She would want you to She would want you to -The father shouldn't cry, because it was a mistake, and the wife knew that. She would want the father to get over what he did, and get on with his life, be a father to their son.- You said stay in the car and wait There's just some things I have to say Don't you know I miss her, too I miss her just as much as you -The father wants to be alone at the grave, so he can apologize alone, make it better. The singer also misses her, and want to be at the grave, but he can't, since the dad want to be alone.- So my father and my son As you end what you've begun You'll lie patient by her side Roses red and lilies white -The son part I don't know, but the father ends what he begun by killing himself at the grave, and that's why he wanted to be alone. Roses red is for the love the father had for his wife, and the white lilles are for innocence, as he knew he only did a mistake.- I was too young to understand The flowers slipping from your hands I was too young to understand I was too young to understand -He was only a kid when all this happend, and didn't know what had happen. The flowers slipping from his hand could be the a sign that he killed himself with flowers in his hand.- I was too young to understand The flowers sleeping in her hands I was too young to understand I was too young to understand -Could mean he had put red roses in her hands, and they would sleep in her hands forever, meaning the love the father had for her would always be there.- |
