| Norma Jean – Sun Dies, Blood Moon Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red. - Revelation 6:12 NIV I don't know about most of the song, but near the end it sounds like his friend committed suicide "You worked hard, you fought the good fight The taste of copper in a failed mouth full of broken teeth" Any guesses? |

To me, it looks like he is talking about the conviction that the Holy Spirit gives us. I will recognize Skelly326's Bible passage The person in the song did some sort of sin: "Fall a little while before we soar" could mean sinning before feeling something euphoric like sex or drugs. "Turn to walk the path in my reflection, but not before the sheep becomes the wolf" could be Jesus saying to go on the narrow path and follow Jesus' example, with the person replying that they will, but not after___. "The tongue was being sharpened by the lie"- the sin is going to bring conviction via Holy Spirit. Tell us all the things we need to know now Youll find us in the silence of our own guilt Shout it from the hell below Shake us but be gentle so Take our hand walk us through Take my hand walk me through the land I stole Help us to lay down I think this could be the guy pleading to Jesus to help him, show him his error's, yet still be loving (mercy and grace) |

I got the complete opposite. To me it looked like Spencer was "killing God" inside him, and denying God. "Forget about the way it used to be."- Forget that he was a Christian. "Tonight I fail. But I never wanted to let you drown without me. Tonight we are the only ones to watch it fall apart" If Spencer goes through with denying God, he will have failed as a Christian. He lost to Satan, basically. Spencer is "killing God" which is a very personal decision, which is why no one else is there and why Spencer has to be with God to see him die. "Don't forget my hands around your neck"- It's like he's acknowledging God, but only to say he's done acknowledging God. "Finally get to watch them wash away my name" He gets to see the name of Christ being washed off of him by denying him. "Open your lungs Follow me down I set this off Keep swimming Oh God I am emptier than you" He is killing God, but knows that he is becoming empty, unsatisfied by doing it. He's not going to believe anymore, but not because of lack of effort. I sure hope your interpretation is the right one, because otherwise this is just depressing to listen to as a Christian. |

I think this song is very dark indeed. I think it is either Spencer speaking against Aaron or God himself about touring as a "Christian band." There was an interview where Spencer said he thought Underoath should change their image of what they were and what they represented. "The youth is hollow and so are we" I think he is saying that the young people who go to see their shows are spiritually or hollow and/or fake, and that the band members themselves are the same way "Take Sides" I think that is meant to say the band is spiritually divided "I'm so sick of you calling the shots"- I think that this might be directed toward Aaron Gillespie, saying that Spencer doesn't like that Aaron is giving them a front of being a Christian band... but it could also be toward the Record company for making them keep up that front. The Last line is the saddest to me: "I'm not using my lungs anymore This is the last time I won't be your voice anymore" I think Spencer is either saying that he won't be with Underoath any longer if Aaron still wants them to be a Christian band, or he is telling God that he won't sing as a Christian anymore, or try to spread the Gospel. |

| I'm gonna agree with you on that. To me, this song looks like he's bitter or just questioning Christianity and the Church. i think "Just a statue of a stain in time" refers to a crucifix, like he's thinking that the crucifixion itself is not important anymore. "Machines built by machines" I think is meant to say that Christians are blindly following those who blindly follow, and that most to all Christians don't truly question whether or not what they believe is true. | |

I'd like to say first that this is probably my favorite song on the album, because of its content and its musical composition... er, its sound. Now, to the lyrics It seems pretty obvious that this pilot received a message, that came in from either a believer of God, or God himself, which would be pretty radical (not because of craziness, but awesomeness). The message is basically saying, "I'm giving you a purpose, you're not a mistake, I made you with what you are going to do in mind" (You are not an aberration/You are meant for distinction The dude is excited to bring the news to everyone, and then is brought down by "the elders", who say that he's wrong, crazy to think that God exists, and tell him to be like everybody else... Two points are made from this. First, the elders are telling him to do the exact opposite of what God instructed him to do (You were meant for distinction/ pledge assimilation). This makes me come to the conclusion that the elders, or leaders of the world or whatever... are either used to represent Satan, or are just doing Satan's work without realizing it. I'll come back to that later. The Chorus comes from one of the following two perspectives, one being a little far-fetched. I think either it's coming from the pilot, which would be the obvious choice, as the elders/ Satan left him for dead when they told him to ignore God's path. My less obvious choice would be that it's coming from Jesus, and that's 'cause "But I've been through You and back again." (Some theologians believe that when Jesus died he descended into Hell for the three days.) I think it's a cool idea, so I'm putting it out there. The song then acts like a dystopian tale, where the world order is doing everything it can to keep God's message unheard or hoping to make people want it. However, the protagonist is uncovering their schemes, and is gaining followers, and a lot of them (kind of sounds like Jesus, or maybe just a prophet) The bridge is up to interpretation, but I think Still dispelling myths- would be making sure the real truth of God's message is being told, and/or driving out heratics that twist the meaning Escaping the sinking ship- Probably going against the world's order, since when Jesus returns, will be like a sinking ship, with death I don't know if the arrows is a biblical reference, but maybe the protagonist is warning the villagers, or maybe defeating the opposition (I really don't have a clue) Dodging their attempts- (I thought it was arrow-tips, which sound way cooler) but it could be a reference to how Jesus responded to the Pharisees; the protagonist is going up against the world order Fighting indifference- One of the most important things Jesus said was to clothe the naked, feed the hungry, and to help the least of these; as Christians we need love and compassion, and indifference to other people's situations destroys that. Still amassing numbers as we march to take the hill- This also sounds like it could be Jesus, because it was his mission to that started it all- we're called Christians for a reason... if so, the hill can symbolize only one thing; heaven. It's why Jesus died, so we could meet the Father. And when we die, it's where we hope to get. You can respond if you disagree/agree with anything. |

| Before I learned about the background for the album, I thought this song was all about the frailty of human life, and how we be gone in a blink of an eye. | |
