| The way I take this song is that Sharon (the lead singer) is narrating what an addiction, eating disorder, mental disorder (depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, etc.) or any other type of potentially fatal struggle would say if it could talk. She's pretty much trying to say that these disorders have a 'personality' and that they are ruthless and will do anything to take you down until they kill you. When at the end, it says "You can't break your chains." This is clarifying that the "chains" are whatever the destructive issue is. Also, Sharon is trying to clarify that these struggles can destroy who you are as a person and that if they're not fixed, they can be fatal. | |
