This quote from Moh Azima, who directed the video, sums up the meaning of the chorus lyrics and the eponymous "barricade" perfectly: "To me, in this context, it’s something that exists between you and someone close to you that doesn’t allow you to share your true feelings. You’re removed from the moment, unable to connect, rendering the relationship false, superficial and two-dimensional. I tried to convey that visually in this video.” As for the rest of the song, I agree that it is about a relationship, a long standing and very precious relationship that gets torn apart by circumstances. Btw, I have always wondered, is it "what we saw was a matter of fiction" or "what we saw was a matter of friction". I hear the latter more.... |

| Interpol – Evil Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This song has nothing to do with Rosemary West. The links these people allude to are tenuous at best. All they have is her name and the fact that the song is called "Evil". The "confession" people are referring to is a work of fiction referencing the Interpol song and using lines from it. The band have never confirmed this long standing speculation, and personally I think it is nonsense. To me, this song follows very nicely after "Next Exit" on the Antics album. Paul stated that "Next Exit" is about a man taking his drug-addled young lady away to a better life and I always see a highway journey in this song that ends in a horrific car crash (I may be influenced by the video somewhat). The song just strikes as being incredibly tragic. | |
