| I think it's about how she feels different from her family and unconnected with them "only thing we share is one last name". “Coal to Diamonds sold to fools” is referring to a common myth that Diamonds actually come from coal, in which they don’t, but some foolish people still believe it. I think marina is metaphorically referring her family to a messed up shady business that sell fake diamonds to fools. I think she's saying that people in her family all lie and are untruthful to each other. I think the song is about how she doesn't want to be like the people in her family and she can't relate to them. | |

I think the song is definitely about being in the "popular" clique and the pros and cons of being in it. "Be a part of the love club everything will glow for you you'll get punched for the love club" being the positive and negative things In the first verse she talks about how before she was in the clique it was alright but with "the bitter salt of blood" meaning there were some negatives to it (maybe getting bullied) I really like these lines in the second verse: "The other day I forgot my old address I'm sitting pretty on the throne there's nothing more I want except to be alone" Lorde is saying that she doesn't know who she is anymore and has changed a lot "the other day I forgot my old address". Then she says how even though she's really popular she doesn't like it and just wants to be alone. I think the end of the song is about leaving the clique and going back to who you truly are. "So drop your chin and take yourself back home and roll out your maps and papers find out your hiding places again" |

| I think that the "numb bears" are people who don't believe in you dreams or goals. "Far across the ocean alone" means that she maybe had to do many difficult things to reach her goals.
