Its a person tormented by the highest truth. Her lover is herself attempting to calm the angst from the deep knowledge which sometimes torments her. This lover which is the self is simply the manifestation of her in the human form. She is creeped out, she misses the part of herself that didn't know. When they say "Don't listen to a word I say, the screams all sound the same" its an admission to not fully comprehending the mysteries of life and yet seeing its beauty.
