This song appears to be an allusion to Adam waking up to find Eve in the Garden of Eden. "He'd put me deep, deep under so he could do his work" is a reference to God putting Adam to sleep so he could take a rib from Adam's body, that was used to form Eve. Later the lyrics read "bone of my bone". The last lyric is the most meaningful: "and you will surely be the death of me, but how could I have known". This alludes to the Eve enticing Adam to eat the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Great song. |
