I’ve never really been an Elvis fan before, but I heard this song & I was hooked. I’m a sucker for sad love songs & this is one of the best. I’m surprised it was written by Eddie Rabbit, since I haven’t heard many other songs written by him, What makes the song so great is the imagery & Elvis’ wonderful interpretation. The song features a desperate, lovelorn man trudging through a heavy rainstorm on foot trying to find the wife, girlfriend or lover who suddenly disappeared without explanation, The singer wants to know what she’s running to or from & wants to bring his love back home. He encounters some old men outside a general store who say they saw her a couple of days ago. I suspect he’s on foot (his shoes are soaking wet) because his love took the car, and yet he persists on foot trying to find her for an entire week. It’s clear that he’s desperately in love with her & will stop at nothing to find her. His interpretation of the song is so vulnerable that it makes the song truly heartbreaking. In fact, I can’t listen to it without crying. It’s not one of Elvis’ greatest hits, but I think it’s one of his best songs. The interpretation is truly heartfelt. |

Based on what I’ve read about her, she suffered childhood trauma including SA & also suffers from depression as an adult. She’s also on the autism spectrum. That’s a whole lot of pain. The bit about putting on her armour & also shedding tears behind sunglasses shows that she’s putting on a brave face in public. |

| Less Than Jake – Hotel California (The Eagles cover) Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| This song is clearly about a cult. “You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.” | |
| Portugal. The Man – Feel It Still Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| I find the lyrics kind of nonsensical, but my favorite part of the song is that pentatonic guitar riff that gives it the 1960’s feel. | |

This is such a profound song. It’s one of my favorites. My Dad was extremely domineering & authoritarian. I was rebellious. We NEVER got along or saw eye to eye about ANYTHING. One day he passed away in his sleep. I always hoped that we could clear the air & make up, but by then it was too late. That’s exactly what this song is about. Don’t wait to make up with your loved ones because you never know how long they’ll be here, Every single line resonates with me. I cry like a baby whenever I hear it. I simply can’t help it. Great song. So bittersweet & touching. |

| This song is a masterpiece full of nostalgia, longing & a bittersweet love that outlasts the relationship. Best song Jackson ever wrote. | |
| Prince – Sometimes It Snows In April Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| This is a beautiful song & you can hear the sadness in his voice as he sings it. Turns out the song was prophetic. It was released 4/21/86--30 years before his death exactly to the day. When he sings of "Tracy" who sounds lk a male friend, Prince is really referring to himself, since "Christopher Tracy" was the pseudonym he often used. The long fought civil war is his battle with addiction to pain killers. Prince had a good life & sometimes he wishes life was never-ending. April 2016 was the snowiest April in many years. In addition, Prince had a lifelong fear of elevators. RIP Prince. You were too beautiful for this world. | |
| Duncan Sheik – She Runs Away Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| All of the interpretations given so far are very literal. We must remember that songs are poems set to music. I believe the lyric is much more symbolic. The singer is a man struggling with sadness & depression and the woman in the song (represented by the feminine pronoun) is a metaphor for Happiness. Try substituting "happiness" everywhere you see "she" or "her" in the song. He believes his are the wounds only Happiness can heal, but when her reaches out for "her" (Happiness), she runs away. Surprisingly, the substitution works. This makes it a much deeper & more universal song than a song about 2 lovers. Its about happiness being fleeting & "running away." | |
