This song makes me think about running away from your problems via substance abuse, I use alcohol as an example. "If there was a single day I could live... A single breath I could take I'd trade all the others away." My interpretation of this line, If there was a day he could live without the burden of drowning his mistakes away with alcohol, he would trade all the moments he was numb away for the freedom of his substance abuse. "The blood's on the wall, so you'd might as well just admit it And bleach out the stains, commit to forgetting it. You're better off empty and blank, than left with a single pathetic trace of this Smother another failure, lay this to rest. Console yourself, you're better alone Destroy yourself, see who gives a fuck Absorb yourself, you're better alone Destroy yourself." I imagine someone close to them or maybe a negative view upon himself talking about this, telling them just go numb yourself and not face any wrongs that you've done, commit to forgetting it. smother another failure the way you do best, destroy yourself cause no one cares. "I'll chain you to the truth, for the truth shall set you free I'll turn the screws of vengeance and bury you with honesty I'll make all your dreams come to life, then slay them as quickly as they came Smother another failure, lay this to rest." If they face the truth then they would be much better off, but facing the truth isnt always easy, in the end you will be stronger but as soon as you take another drink it will continue to destroy you. The rest of the lyrics are repeated, but basically thats the way I perceive this song. |

| Times of Grace – The Forgotten One Lyrics | 12 years ago |

From what I perceived after listening for a few hours, I think its about whether or not this man will be accepted into heaven. "If I fall, would you be there to raise me up? Or will I be the forgotten one?". Words only lead me to the cracks in my disguise. My flesh a prison for the man behind these eyes. I sing the epitaph for an unnamed king. Carved in this tombstone all the lost pieces of me. ^Never really understood entirely the first verse. Are they the words of god he is talking about? The epitaph for an unamed king, I assume jesus's epitaph? " And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, 'Jesus Of Nazareth The King Of The Jews.' This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, 'Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.' Pilate answered. 'What I have written I have written.' That is the epitaph of jesus christ. He might have written unnamed king as a censor for respect. How far is the distance between you and I? I suspect the words are coming from the man that is now dead and possibly in hell, awaiting to be rescued and sent to heaven, hence the chorus. The chorus sounds like the man is in hell, a sea of sadness, a place of darkness. And when hes there will he be redeemed or will he be forgotten? Devils on my back and angels in between. Heaven (up) hell (down/to the rear) The scars and dreams that made me believe. The endeavors of life that solidified his belief of god and his words. Wheres the crime scene in remembrance to me? (not too sure exactly what hes talking about) When our eyes meet do you know the man beneath? Walk the line between desperate and redeemed. When he meets god, will he know the kind of person that he was, would he be considered a good person although he has sinned? The line between desperate and redeemed makes me think of life now, where we are. The midpoint between heaven and hell, life being our chance of redemption. My hymns are songs for the broken. That whole verse is in kind of gods perspective. His hymns are songs for the broken, but through every word that was spoken, does he carry hope for the hopeless? Does he carry hope for the ones that he hadn't accepted into heaven? The ones who seem forsaken in hell. Im not very good at explaining though, sorry if it seems jumbled. |
