Vampire Weekend – Diane Young Lyrics 10 years ago
I thought this song was about what people have previously said and the obvious 'dying young' word play. That diane young represents this. Something gives me the feeling it is a girl ezra met that challenged this idea. The sterotype live fast die young rock and roll thing lifestyle vs his more preservation serious approach only looking at the past in present being careful and still the idea in his mind whats to come is uncertain no matter how careful he is. So he is singing about the tempation of this girl's energy on him. Or rather the idea how in music like kol's for example sure isn't his.. song mollys chambers how when you start to get old and reflective or aware of that a young youthfully perhaps reckless spirited girl you could put somekind of fantasy on, because she possess what you lack.

Because the singer Sky Ferrira was in a video clip and Ezra has hinted in another lyric seems he likes female singers, thought maybe she could have been a loose inspiration or representation of this idea coming together for the song.
The kennedy part reminds me of possible muse for that kol song and Sky's friend corey kennedy a play on that and it's obvious use in the song.

But i think it was a very loose muse like many of his. More the coming together of ideas to present express his ideas etc than anything surface value. But then Don't pick up on some comments of links or decode. So maybe i am the one only grasping the surface!

Either way
Ezra is right on time. Seems would be the perfect husband and father. His lyrics songs and voice are divine

Vampire Weekend – Finger Back Lyrics 10 years ago
Read previous comment that is about another romance, but same idea but when read thought was him for himself personally. But that love that is also poison painful.

I thought was the actually girl making the love painful, she didn't reciprocate it or was a wild type self destructive to have someone soft for them in pain both personally and for them but being hopeless to do anything about either.

Vampire Weekend – Unbelievers Lyrics 10 years ago
I'm an unbeliever of religion was brought up with, always love Jewish men and would love to be an unbeliever with Ezra and live in his ideals.

I think you can still believe in the idea of a god or be in a religion if don't obey everything or not? But take it as lessons instead and never let it override your natural human compassion or compass which Ezra from interviews seems to have so much of that perception, intelligence of listening before making his opinion or still then listening to others different to that.

I think is how to have any kind of relationships, friends, partners, children.
He seems would be an amazing all of those things, definatly partner and father

(i'm not a crazy fan to say want to marry him or have his children) but admire his character so much and would love to learn from him

Vampire Weekend – Ya Hey Lyrics 10 years ago
I thought it was religious, about him being Jewish but deciding not to remain part of it although it is still his race and heritage which he still completely identifies himself with and is proud of. He loves everything meaning different religions as concepts to incorporate into his life (Buddhism etc) but not being committed to one particular so not being truthful to one or betraying each of them, he will end in flames as won't be accepted after life. Or as punishment for turning his back on Judaism or just the doubt he made the wrong choice to do so?

Just like not being accepted on earth by any of those religions though he loves all because of his choice, I think this song is the inner issues of that and though is his choice having some doubt or maybe just the wrath of his choice of not having any set acceptance from "the mother land" or "father land". Because in America he is seen as a Jew, but since he has walked away from that religious wise won't be accepted there either.

Saying his name meaning he is jewish but because of his choice maybe being some kind of tratoir but then with only reassurance that he is what he is and is just being truthful to that.

And maybe though unsure of this part due to the secret career and dialouge part perhaps realise he in is role his music, beliefs is realising the power he has as that preacher type role being the frontman, but also perhaps in his previous career as a teacher. Is being in a position of power over highly influenceable people.

Knowing he has something to say and his position not maybe sought after but very much aware and the issues of how can he be presenting this when sometimes in the dark he has his own doubts on this being his choice of opinion.

Most likely much more to it or completely off mark and sorry for terrible grammar the man himself would be appalled that people with such bad grammar could be trying to figure out the inner workings of a mind like his

Vampire Weekend – One (Blake's Got a New Face) Lyrics 10 years ago
I Thought this song was maybe not about a person Blake but the name standing for something, like Ezra's life or ambition he had for his life? Maybe the reality of his life and how it differed from the ambitions or what he was previous told was set for his future through the route he took by going to a top University then becoming a teacher.

Or a person too but who resembles that idea also, such as an old friend or person he knew who that happened to like when you meet up with someone you knew from years ago and how different their life seems or they do for becoming maybe what was predicted but the reality of it which compared to maybe what Ezra went on to do with music for him, seems in comparison boring?

Who knows he is a clever clever man

Vampire Weekend – Step Lyrics 10 years ago
I thought it was maybe about him reflecting on how he has grown up

How he lived and maybe how his previous thoughts of music and in general were of that opinion at the time very strong in what he believed in but now he feels ready to settle down but can't do it alone

Like everything he fought he is now not caving to but done almost a full circle and stopped defending things and living with that but grown up and wants everything he thought before was so confined, rather than seeing he was the one who was before in thinking that of others.

Thought his girl was his opinions, beliefs, someone stepping it is challenging that be it his music, dress or opinions and his need to defend it
